Aurex. Preserving What Humanity Leaves behind.

This cosplay photoset is inspired by Alien Stage (ALNST), a multimedia project created by South Korean artist VIVINOS (Soyeon Kim).

Known for its retro shōjo-inspired aesthetic and original music, the series presents a dystopian world where human contestants perform in elimination-style competitions, with survival determined by audience reception.

The Context

This set focuses on the character Sua, a quiet contestant whose identity is shaped by a system that commodifies performance and emotion. In the original work, she is introduced as part of a group of visually similar “sisters,” hinting at themes of clones, human trafficking, and the loss of Sua’s individuality.

Aurex is a fictitious preservation organisation that was created by myself in attempts to worldbuild and is not related to the original source material.

The Goal

The photoset reimagines this world through the lens of an auction catalogue. Rather than portraying Sua purely as a performer, she is presented as a product offering by Aurex. Visual inspo was drawn from luxury listings, product specification sheets, and idol merchandise, blending commercial design language with character portraiture.

This work aims to alienate the viewer from the character of Sua and view her as a collection piece to acquired and memorialised in a collection.

The result

A key intention of the work is contrast. The images aim to be of a polished, almost editorial quality. similar to fashion or beauty campaigns, whilst embedding undertones of dehumanization and ownership. This duality reflects the core tension of Alien Stage: the transformation of human expression into something consumable, marketable, and ultimately disposable.
